Powerful Skincare Ingredients that Slow Down Aging
Let’s face it, regardless of what age you are—we are all getting older. For that reason, it is essential to give your skin the TLC it needs (and deserves). That being said, today I’m going to talk about powerful skincare ingredients that slow down aging.
Skincare Ingredients that Slow Down Aging
Retinol
Retinol, also known as Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant that has shown to reverse sun damage, prevent fine lines & wrinkles, decrease pore size, treat acne, and improve overall skin texture.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is another powerful antioxidant that has shown to help protect skin from sun damage and prevent cell damage. Additionally, Vitamin C has been indicated to be crucial for collagen production and protect the skin against hyperpigmentation and wrinkles.
Collagen
Collagen is strongly believed to be a primary cause of wrinkles. Our bodies produce collagen naturally. However, the older we get, the less our body produces. For that reason, it’s essential to take supplements to replace the loss of collagen.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) binds water to cells. As a result, HA provides hydration, firmness, elasticity and suppleness to the skin—which ultimately slows down skin aging. Just like collagen, the ability to produce HA decreases as we age. Thankfully, there are many wonderful serums and moisturizers containing Hyaluronic Acid on the market.
Hydroxy acids
Alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic acid, lactic acid, ), beta hydroxy acids (salicylic acid) and poly hydroxy acids are exfoliants that removes superficial dead skin and stimulates the growth of new skin.
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 gives energy for cell production and repair. Also, this powerful antioxidant may help protect the delicate skin near the eyes from free radical damage. As a result of this, Coenzyme Q10 helps improve skin firmness and elasticity.
Niacinamide
Niacinamide, also known as B3, is a powerful antioxidant that has shown to help fade age spots, fade hyperpigmentation, decrease wrinkles, prevent water loss in the skin, and improve skin elasticity.
Heivy Liquid Collagen Supplement Drink

As many of you know, I’m a vegetarian. Since this collagen supplement contains marine collagen (fish) I gave this to my mom to try out (she’s not a vegetarian). She said this has a fruity cough syrup taste. However, she said she had a hard time stomaching it at first, as it made who a bit nauseous (Vitamin C typically cause nausea). However, she said the nausea subsided after taking it a couple of days. After about a week of taking it, she said she feels more energized. Even though she hasn’t notice too much of a difference in her skin yet, it’s too soon to tell the real results. For that reason, I will give you guys an update!
I used to work at a warehouse that did distribution for a large skincare line. Almost everything was either a vitamin C or retinol A based product. I have a few still since we could keep any that had to be opened for QA after they were done with them.
I’m not surprised, they are both powerful skincare ingredients! That’s awesome you were able to take some skincare products home with you 🙂
I’ve been using hyaluronic acid under eye pads and I’m absolutely obsessed. My sister is an aesthetician and is always introducing me to new things.
Ahh I love hyaluronic acid under eye pads! They hydrate and plump up the skin beautifully!! 🙂
Wow! I’ve never heard of this! I totally need this right now I will save this post thanks for sharing
You’re welcome, thanks for reading 🙂
OK – never heard of the collagen drinks, Not sure I’d be keen to try them. Biut most of the other things I have a) heard of, and/or b) tried, and/or c) am using presently,. I would add, avoiding sun and smoking, getting good sleep and proper hydration, and eating healthfully to your list 🙂 – these are the things I (try to) do 🙂 Maybe not “skincare ingredients” per se, but important parts of the equation nonetheless 🙂
I complexly agree with you on avoiding sun + smoking, eating healthy, etc. I actually did a post on ways to prevent premature aging and added these all 🙂 Happy to hear that you take care of your skin, Flossie 🙂
So interesting. I’ve never thought to use any of these, however now that you’ve mentioned them I might look into it. Thanks!
You’re welcome Krysten! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I have never really thought very hard about what was in my skin care. This was so interesting to read what all of the different ingredients could do for you.
Happy you found it interesting, Becca 🙂
I didn’t know about half of these things! I am going to look for them to buy for sure as I need all the help I can get!

I haven’t heard of these products but it’s great to know since this year, I am all for self-care! I need pampering.
Ahh yess, self-care!!!!
I’m glad you were able to explain this to me — most of these things I have never heard of before. I’m still trying to figure out what products to use.
I’m happy you found this helpful! If you have any questions, feel free to message me! 🙂
So glad you shared these! I’ve been using a gel with Hyaluronic Acid in it and collagen in my coffee every morning but I didnt know about the coenzyme or niacinamide.
That is awesome, Sarah 🙂 I’m awesome you enjoyed this post!
I always take care of my face and I really try to use products that could help me look younger. Retinol, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid are some of the ingredients I want my cream and serum to have.
Happy to know you take care of your skin, Helene 🙂
I love Hyaluronic Acid in my face maks that I use by Garnier. Still, I’m trying to find the right masks for me. Lately, I’m thinking on some DIYs too.
I love the Garnier face mask! DIY masks are also awesome though 🙂
This was actually really useful and so much relevant information here. I need to relook at my skincare as my current one is not working xx
Happy you found this helpful! Thanks for taking your time to read it 🙂
I’ve been using a few of these products for a little while now. I love the collagen, and hyaluronic acid masks. They make my skin glissen! Definitely a recommendation!
Ahh yessss, those are my favorite types of masks 🙂
Excellent post! You covered all of the key ingredients! I have started taking supplements with collagen last year and the changes have been remarkable!
Thanks Nati 🙂 It’s wonderful to hear that you have seen a difference since taking collagen supplements 🙂 Hope you have an awesome week! x
I know I had heard about Collagen being a good way to help with the aging process. I didn’t know there was a collagen drink. Definitely something I would be willing to try.
Ooo wonderful!!
I didn’t know any of this until I read your post! I’ll be sure to look into these more the next time I’m shopping for skin care products!
Feel free to message me if you have any questions 🙂
YES to collagen, I started taking a powder in my coffee and smoothies about 4 months ago and guess what, people are telling me I look younger. One colleague even asked if “I got some work done?” haha! My little secret. Good to know adding vitamin C helps, will for sure add some and see how it goes. Interesting to hear you mum feels energized… Vitality is not underrated.
That is TOO funny! lol! That is so awesome 🙂
