7 Things To Do In Puerto Rico
If you thought Puerto Rico is a place to just relax at the beach and sip on margaritas, you’re wrong—Puerto Rico has so much more to offer. If you’re planing on making a trip to there, here are 7 things to do in Puerto Rico!
7 Things To Do In Puerto Rico
1. Visit one of Puerto Rico’s islands
Yearning for that crystal clear, pool-like water? Head over to Fajardo and take a ferry to one of Puerto Rico’s beautiful islands. I highly recommend in going to either Flamenco Beach, Culebrita, or Cayo Icacos— you won’t be disappointed.
2. Visit El Yunque National Rainforest
Want to see the lush part of Puerto Rico? Then visiting El Yunque National Rainforest is a must! As of now, about 50% of El Yunque is open (post Hurricane Maria). However, it is estimated to open completely up by 2020. I personally recommend renting a car for the day so you can explore El Yunque at your own pace (make sure to rent a car days beforehand to save some money!) The roads in Puerto Rico are similar to those in America… just keep in mind that there’s not street lights at every corner and people tend to forget to use their hazards. If you’re staying in the San Juan area, renting a car also allows you to visit Las Playa (natural waterslide) on your way back from El Yunque—a major advantage.
3. Explore Old San Juan
Old San Juan definitely gives European vibes with all the stunning Spanish style buildings. Between the pastel colors and the cobblestone roads, I was in heaven walking the streets of Old San Juan. San Juan offers countless restaurants and cute shops!
4. Bioluminescent Kayaking Tour
If you’re staying in the San Juan area, you would want to do this on your way back from visiting one of Puerto Rico Island’s. The tour is awesome because there is tiny organism that make the water glow beautiful at night. Don’t forget to pack on some bug spray, because you are guaranteed to be eaten up alive if you don’t.
5. Cueva Ventana
Cueva Ventana is a window-like cave that overlooks the Rio Grande de Arecibo Valley. If you’re down for the trip, this scenic view is certainly worth it! If you drive there yourself, the cost of the tour for a non-resident is only $19!
6. Visit Casa Bacardi
I bet you didn’t know that the Bacardi Rum Factory is the largest rum distillery in the world. Visit Casa Bacardi to learn the history about the Puerto Rican rum and see how the rum is made.
7. Visit Fort San Cristóbal
The Fort San Cristóbal was built by Spain in 1975=1785 to protect against attacks. The Castle of San Cristóbal overlooks the Caribbean ocean and offers stunning views of Old San Juan. It’s definitely worth taking a stop at the historically famous Fort San Cristóbal.
I’ve never been to Puerto Rico, but now I want to go! The rainforest looks gorgeous, I could easily spend a lot of time there. I’m glad to see they are getting things restored after the hurricane. As a native Floridian, I know the damage that those storms can cause.
Oh wow Puerto Rico is amazing! Your photos are utterly beautiful and there is so much to do, one day we will get there!
The beach, romance, watersports, partying, nature, food, culture and history what more do you need.
