Ways to Whiten Teeth At Home

Whether it is from too much coffee or simply lack of brushing, teeth can turn yellow. We can all admit that yellow teeth is just not cute. Therefore, here are some at-home ways to help whiten your teeth.

Brush teeth with baking soda

Baking soda is a mild abrasive that is claimed to whiten teeth over a time. Don’t expect an overnight miracle with using baking soda. Over time and persistent, you should see whiter teeth.

Rinse with hydrogen peroxide

Now this method should be done occasionally because too much can erode the enamel. Hydrogen peroxide is claimed to whiten the teeth as well as disinfecting the mouth. Always dilate the hydrogen peroxide with water before swishing your mouth. Also, make sure to always rinse with water once your done.

Rinse with apple cider vinegar

I am too scared to try this one but I have heard apple cider vinegar does help. I would personally recommend using apple cider vinegar very occasionally because studies have shown that it can erode the enamel as well as soften the teeth. Just like with hydrogen peroxide, you want to also dilate the apple cider with water and rinse with water afterwards.

Use a teeth-whitening toothpaste

Teeth-whitening toothpaste will help lighten stained teeth. I personally like to use Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle Teeth Whitening toothpaste. However, I use this on rotation because teeth whitening toothpaste can be abrasive on the enamel and can even result in teeth sensitivity.

Avoid charcoal toothpaste

Despite the recent popularity of charcoal toothpaste, dentists highly advise avoiding them at all costs. Charcoal is a highly absorbent that absorbs basically everything in your teeth such as bacteria and stains. Since charcoal is very abrasive, charcoal toothpaste can certainly whiten the teeth but cause serious erosion.

Use an at-home teeth whitening system

If you want quick, easy results, I highly recommend investing in an at-home teeth whitening system. Unlike the other three options, a teeth whitening system will be more effective in those with yellow teeth. I have been using the Truewhite Advanced Plus 3 and have been loving the results. I did notice slight whitening results after the first treatment but noticed a more predominant change after about 15 treatments. I do have sensitive teeth so I prefer not to use the other options above because I rather not weaken my enamel even more. For that reason, I like how this teeth whitening system is approved by dentists to be enamel safe.

I didn’t realize that Charcoal would take out the rest of your teeth and not just the bad stuff. I will have to tell some of my friends about the abrasiveness of Charcoal toothpaste.

I don’t think I would ever rinse with acv either that does sound abrasive for the teeth when you think about it.
