My Doors-Off Experience With FlyNYON

My Experience With FlyNYON

I was lucky enough to get a complimentary helicopter ride with FlyNYON. I did the NYC Classic 30 minute sunset helicopter ride and it was hands down the best experience of my life. I flew on a gloomy, hazy evening which I particular liked because it was awesome flying right through the clouds. The helicopter seats fives. When I flew, it was me, a mother and a daughter, a photographer and the pilot. The pilot was very thoughtful asking everyone how they were doing throughout the ride. I particularly liked how the pilot turned the helicopter to each side so everyone can view every angle. I had the adventure seat (which I highly recommend.) With the adventure seat, I was able to take off my seatbelt and dangle my feet — there was such a rush of having my feet dangle above New York City’s skyscrapers. Overall, flying FlyNYON’s doors-off flight was the ultimate helicopter experience and I was able to capture some memorable shots.

Would I recommend it?

I highly recommend it because it is an experience like no other.. like when do you have the chance to take an epic shoe selfie over New York City’s skyscrapers? Whether you are going with your girlfriends or going with your significant other on your anniversary, you are guaranteed to have a blast.

Is it scary?

You might be surprised but I thought that the helicopter ride was nothing but peaceful. Then again, I am a roller coasters junkie and I am not afraid of heights so I can’t speak for all. Though, I would say that a typical roller coaster at Six Flags is scarier than a helicopter ride.

How safe is it?

Some people get spooked because they hear “doors-off.” However, there is no need to worry because FlyNYON uses an 8 Point Safety Harness System that is extremely safe. I was on the edge of my seat with my feet dangling from the door and I felt very secure in the helicopter.

How does your phone/camera not fall out?

FlyNYON provides durable phone grips and attaches your phone and camera to your harness so they are very secure.

I would love to go but I do not live near New York City

Luckily, FlyNyon is throughout the states! There are FlyNYON locations in Miami, Las Vegas Los Angeles and San Francisco. One of the Las Vegas flights even goes through parts of the Grand Canyon National Park!

Helpful tips I have learned from my experience

Strong winds

If you are a female, wear your hair up slick back in a tight bun. I initially had my hair up in a bun with some bangs and I ended up having to redo my bun while on the ride because the wind is unbelievable strong because the helicopter goes so quickly.

If you are a person who is prone to getting cold quick, I would advise to dress warm in order to be as comfortable as possible.

Capturing photos are tricky

If you have never taken aerial photos, it is certainly going to be a challenge for first timers.

Prepare your camera

You can’t fix a blurry image once you are on the ground. Therefore, it is imperative for you to set your shutter speed on your camera preferably at 1/1000th of a second.

Continuously take pictures

If your goal is to capture stunning photos, don’t stop taking pictures. There were times when I wanted to just sit back and appreciate every second while glancing at everything below me. However, I did miss a couple of chances of taking awesome angled shots of certain buildings. For that reason, I recommend to continously snap photos.

If you do it, go all in

If you do decide to fly with FlyNYON, go all in with the adventure seat. How else are you gonna get your shoe selfie?

I know I would have a rough time out in a helicopter like that. That’s so cool that you were able to handle it. And you got some pretty amazing pictures.
